History

This institution was visualized and founded by Dr. Munishwar Pathak, while he was working at a hospital in New York, USA in 1950. India had emerged as an independent nation that was looking for dedicated doctors in the healthcare sector. This led Dr. M. Pathak to leave the comforts of United States to settle in Dehri On Sone, a remote town in Bihar, and dedicate his life to the service of humanity.   The foundation stone of Jagjivan Sanatorium was laid by Pt. Binodanand Jha, the then Health Minister of Bihar in 1951 and it was inaugurated by Shri Jagjivan Ram in 1954. Patronage of eminent personalities like Shri Jagjivan Ram and the public has enabled this institution to survive in times of crisis. The sanatorium initially began with only five beds but over the years it became a full fledged tuberculosis hospital with one hundred beds. The facilities included X-ray machines, and a pathological laboratory for diagnosing and treating tuberculosis. This sanatorium is located near Dehri On Sone on a ten acre land on the banks of the river Sone in the midst of a sprawling garden.   The year 1954 was not just an inauguration of an ordinary hospital, but a landmark in the lives of those patients suffering from tuberculosis. The fear that tuberculosis was incurable no longer haunted the minds and most of the patients admitted were able to go back to their households without infecting their loved ones. To this date, approximately eighty thousand patients have been treated successfully.
We plan on upgrading the existing facilities and providing outdoor clinics for counseling and treatment of patients. Our intention is to provide healthcare of excellent standard to the weaker sections of our society as well as to those that cannot afford the treatment.   This Sanatorium is registered under the Societies Act, 1860 and donations made to this institution will qualify for exemption in the hands of donors under Section 80 G of the Income tax Act 1961.

HISTORY
